From the time you arrive on the Gold Coast, you will find getting around is easy.  From the airport to the Theme Parks to the shopping centres, there are always options to get you there.

Arriving at the airport

There are a number of ways to get from Coolangatta Airport to Summerset.  If you are coming along the Gold Coast Highway, the salmon coloured Crowne Plaza, on the right hand side of the highway, is on the corner of the Gold Coast Highway and First Avenue and is the marker for you and/or your driver to find our street.

If you come along Surf Parade, keep an eye out for Broadbeach Bowling Club and you are getting very close.

  • Public Bus - is the cheapest option, but may take a little longer.  Bus route 777 is the best option and leaves from the Zone 18 stop, to the left of the Domestic arrivals/baggage collection area at the terminal.  Buses run regularly between the first and last flights of the day.  This trip takes approximately approx. 45 minutes and will cost approximately $8 per adult and $5-6 per child. Get off at the last stop - Broadbeach South Station - and change to either the G Link light rail or another bus (705).

    • On the light rail, travel 2 stops and get off at "Florida Gardens" (outside Crowne Plaza), walk back half a block and turn left into First Ave.

    • If you take Bus 705, this goes along Surf Parade past the Broadbeach Bowls Club and a small strip shopping centre before you get off at the First Ave stop. Walk back 1/2 block to First Ave and turn right.

You can pay cash onboard or at the light rail terminal, or buy a “Go Card” bus transport card from the Gold Coast Shuttle booth at the airport. ( Bus fares are cheaper using the Go Card.).  Only Qld student concession cards are accepted on buses and public transport.

  • Taxi – This is a more expensive option, but will drop you right at the door.  Depending on the traffic, the taxi trip will take approximately 30 mins and will cost approximately $50.

Driving

Arriving from the south

Drive along the Gold Coast Highway through Coolangatta, Burleigh Heads, and Mermaid Beach (among others) until you come to Broadbeach.  Signs indicating Pacific Fair Shopping Centre on the left and a large shopping hub to the right with many high rise hotels will indicate you are at Broadbeach.  Continue along the highway until you come to traffic lights at Australia Avenue and turn right, then take the first left into Surf Parade.  Continue along Surf Parade approximately 6-7 blocks until you come to First Avenue, and turn left again.  Summerset is the second building on your left.

Arriving from the north

Get on the Pacific Motorway and follow the motorway to the Southport-Nerang Rd in Molindar. Take Exit 69 – Southport-Nerang Road towards Surfers Paradise.  Travel approximately 12 kms and turn right onto Ashmore Road.  Continue approx 7 kms to Salerno Road (through 2 roundabouts) and then follow signs ‘Via Roma’.  Turn right onto Gold Coast Highway and then travel approx 1 km and turn left into First Ave.  The salmon coloured Crowne Plaza building is on the corner.  Summerset is approximately 150 meters on your right.

Cycling

Bike riding is a great way to get around the coast, with miles of bike lanes running parallel to the beach as well as many other tracks around the Hinterland area and also in the area between Surfers Paradise and the Theme Parks. There are many companies that hire bikes for short or longer periods and as the market is quite competitive, rates are generally reasonsable. You can find details of these in the Hello Gold Coast book, or by googling 'bike hire gold coast'.
